The highlight of the East Lothian golf calendar is the Scottish Open, scheduled to be played at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick until 2026.
Each July this competition welcomes top golfers from around the world to compete for qualification for The Open.
For guests staying in North Berwick for a short golf break at other times of the year, this course offers the chance to enjoy wonderful views of Fidra Island in the Firth of Forth, as well as children’s camps and one on one lessons.
The next generation of world-class golfers is also catered for in East Lothian, with the US Kids Golf Open played at the start of each summer.
Children aged 5 to 18 compete on the top courses on Scotland’s golf coast, including the Glen Golf Club in North Berwick and the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.
Whether you are new to golf, or a practised hand, East Lothian’s golfing coast provides plenty of options to hone your skills.
There are also several open competitions in which to participate during your golf break, including the Links Golf Cup at the end of March.
This amateur competition takes place across some of East Lothian’s top golf courses such as Gullane No.1 and No.2, North Berwick and Kilspindie.
All of these courses allow golfers the opportunity to set foot on historic ground, with Gullane Golf Club having hosted players for over 350 years.
Kilspindie Golf Club meanwhile offers a stunning location for the competition, situated in Aberlady nature reserve.
Kilspindie is a hidden gem for East Lothian golf and players may spot seabirds or seals as they head around the course.
A shorter competition is also available with the Links Golf Salver at Archerfield Golf Club, played on Dirleton and Fidra Links.
For amateur golfers, there are several opportunities for competing in East Lothian.
East Lothian boasts top golf courses near Edinburgh, including the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, situated on the grounds of Prestongrange House, and Musselburgh Golf Club, both of which host competitions throughout the summer.
Longniddry Golf Club, the closest seaside links course to Edinburgh, is also an exciting prospect, offering stunning views of Fife, Edinburgh and Arthur’s Seat.
A little further inland we find Haddington Golf Club, which opened in 1865 and is the 19th oldest golf course in the world.
Gifford Golf Club, located close to Haddington, is set at the foot of the beautiful Lammermuir Hills and, like Haddington Golf Club, has individual and pairs competitions during summer months.
For those not taking part in the Links Golf Club, Gullane Golf Club and Kilspindie Golf Club can be played at other times of the year, including amateur competitions each summer.
Along the coast at North Berwick Golf Club, competitions are available in the early autumn for juniors, pairs and individuals.
This championship standard course poses an interesting challenge with the sea coming in and often affecting 6 of the holes.
Finally, Dunbar Golf Club provides amateur competitions for individuals and pairs throughout the summer and is said to be one of the best golf courses in Scotland with wonderful sea views.
